Help plan priorities for natural resource management in the Northern Rivers region
The Northern Rivers Catchment Action Plan (CAP) sets priorities for investment in natural resource management projects from Kempsey to the Tweed and west to the Tablelands.
The current Northern Rivers CAP was created in 2004, so it’s time for it to be updated. We are currently seeking your input into the development of the new Northern Rivers Catchment Action Plan for 2012–2022.
There are lots of ways to get involved, find out more and contribute to developing the new Northern Rivers CAP:
- Read the latest CAP Discussion Paper
- Complete a survey to give us your views
- Register to receive email updates and take part in online discussions
- Attend a consultation workshop or other events in your area
"It’s vital that the new CAP reflects the aspirations of the Northern Rivers community for the future of our precious natural resources. We encourage you to get involved..."
- John Williams, NRCMA Chairman.

What’s your vision for the Northern Rivers?
Time is running out to add your input to our Vales and Issues survey, which closes at the end of the month. This information will help us understand what you value in the landscape and what you think are the most important natural resource management issues.
Thanks to everyone who has already shared their ideas. Here’s how some participants describe their vision for the environment of the Northern Rivers region into the future:
- "To be a place where we eat locally grown produce and continue to enjoy and interact in healthy environments."
- "To see the area free of weeds would be amazing."
- "I would like to see many degraded urban and rural areas cleaner and regenerated."
- "I hope to see the Northern Rivers retain its vibrant local culture."
- "A region where a wide sector of the community work to protect and enhance the environment"

Discussion Paper No.3 to be released in late May
The current review and upgrade of the Northern Rivers Catchment Action Plan (NRCAP) is progressing well with release of Discussion Paper #3 planned for late May. The Paper will propose maps of catchment health based on biophysical themes including biodiversity, freshwater, soil, coastal, estuarine and marine ecosystems; and the community's capacity for Natural Resource Management.
Following the Paper's release, a comprehensive public consultation program will be conducted including a written submissions period and an extensive series of public workshops across the NRCMA region over six weeks. Details about the workshops and how to make a submission will be posted here as soon as they become available.
